My Plan for Ward 5
A clear set of commitments for water, roads, education, jobs, connectivity and accountable leadership — with a timeline for delivery.
Action from Day One
First 100 Days
- 01
Ward 5 Community Service Desk
Establish a direct channel where residents can report water, roads, electricity, sanitation and other service-delivery problems. Every reported issue should be recorded and followed up.
- 02
Ward 5 Community Needs Register
Visit and engage communities across Ward 5 to document their most urgent needs. This becomes the evidence-based priority list used when engaging Matatiele Local Municipality and other government departments.
- 03
Water — Start with Mnceba
Begin mobilising support towards a practical water intervention for Mnceba Village, while formally escalating the community's long-standing water needs to the responsible authorities.
- 04
Roads Assessment & Priority List
Identify the worst roads and access routes across Ward 5, document their condition and submit a ranked priority programme for grading, maintenance and rehabilitation.
- 05
Youth, Skills & Opportunities Register
Create a voluntary database of unemployed young people, artisans, graduates, job seekers and local skills so opportunities reaching the ward can be communicated more fairly and openly.
- 06
Local Business & SMME Register
Identify local builders, farmers, tradespeople, cooperatives and small businesses. Advocate for local businesses to have fair access to municipal and development opportunities.
- 07
Mzongwana–Makhoba Economic Development Initiative
Begin stakeholder engagement around the proposed Mzongwana–Makhoba Shopping Centre and other opportunities that could bring services, investment and jobs closer to residents.
- 08
Ward 5 Connectivity Initiative
Engage telecommunications and connectivity providers about practical options for improving affordable internet access in underserved communities.
- 09
Regular Community Meetings
Introduce a programme of open community engagements so residents do not only see their councillor during elections.
- 10
Publish the First Ward 5 Progress Report
At the end of the first 100 days, publish what has been reported, submitted, escalated, approved, started and completed.
100 days will not fix everything.
But 100 days is enough to show how I intend to lead.
Visible. Accessible. Accountable.
Beyond the First 100 Days
Medium-Term Commitments
Beyond the first 100 days, the focus will shift from identifying and escalating problems to driving sustained progress across Ward 5.
Work consistently for reliable water, better roads, improved educational opportunities, youth development, digital connectivity and stronger support for local businesses and SMMEs.
Advocate for infrastructure investment and ensure Ward 5 priorities are consistently represented in the Matatiele Local Municipality planning and budgeting processes.
Promote strategic economic development, including the proposed Mzongwana–Makhoba Shopping Centre, to attract supermarkets, banking and ATM services, health and pharmacy services, retail, government services and opportunities for local traders and SMMEs.
Support initiatives that create skills, employment and economic opportunities for young people, while working to improve access to education and digital resources.
Accountability
How Progress Will Be Tracked
Accountability must continue after election day.
Residents will receive regular updates through community meetings, WhatsApp and online platforms.
A public Ward 5 Progress Tracker will show the status of major commitments:
Where a project depends on municipal budgets, provincial or national government, or another responsible institution, residents will be told clearly:
- Who is responsible
- What has been requested
- What action has been taken
- What is outstanding
- What happens next
This means residents won't simply hear “we are working on it.” They will be able to see where each commitment actually stands.
